International Day of Women and Girls in Science at KH Roberts

Celebrate Women in Science – Meet 3 remarkable colleagues on International Day of Women and Girls in Science

11 February is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGIS). This day highlights and celebrates the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). It aims to promote gender equality in these fields, raise awareness about the underrepresentation of women, and inspire girls to pursue careers in science. The day emphasizes the importance of diversity and inclusivity in scientific endeavors for the benefit of innovation, progress, and the global community.

To commemorate this day, KH Roberts would like to spotlight a few female colleagues from our pace-setting R&D and Engineering team.

Driven by my passion for Math and Chemistry, I pursued a major in Chemical Engineering with the aim of acquiring valuable skills as a problem solver and critical innovator. In my role at KH Roberts, I oversee quality control procedures, ensuring that product manufacturing adheres to the highest quality standards.

One particular scope includes troubleshooting quality issues and implementing corrective actions. These efforts enhance the quality of creations from the R&D team, ensuring they meet the highest standards in terms of compliance, safety, and sustainability.

I believe fostering a diverse environment for everyone, irrespective of gender, in STEM is crucial. Such inclusivity is not just a matter of equality but a strategic imperative. An inclusive environment enables the company to benefit from a variety of perspectives and insights, propelling us towards industry advancements and contributing to long-term sustainability, as well as innovative goals and achievements.

I pursued a major in Food Science driven by my passion for both Food and Science.

The aspect of my work that brings me the greatest sense of achievement is tackling projects that require the application of my technical knowledge to solve consumers' pain points. A notable example is successfully imitating plant-based meat and dairy to closely resemble their real counterparts in terms of texture, mouthfeel, aromas, and tastes. Achieving this requires numerous trial and error sessions to arrive at the correct formulation. Knowing that my efforts contribute to a more sustainable future and ensure consumers’ satisfaction is what motivates me and gives me a clear sense of purpose at work.

In the realm of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), diversity and inclusivity are paramount. These principles not only foster a sense of equality but also lead to innovative and creative solutions derived from unique perspectives. An organization that prioritizes diversity is inspired and empowered to perform better, ultimately contributing to success and establishing a robust position in the sustainability landscape.

Since my childhood, I've held a deep interest in Science, and it was my father who truly inspired me to choose Food Science. He emphasized how food nutrition is rooted in scientific principles. The most thrilling aspect of my job is the process of matching and screening flavors to meet customers' targets. It's a creative and trial-driven process where I feel empowered to enhance the taste of food. The knowledge that my efforts will be recognized and eventually launched into the market for consumers brings me immense pride and satisfaction.

I firmly believe in equal opportunities for everyone, irrespective of gender and race. Viewing this as an investment in a more innovative, productive, and equitable future, it unlocks human potential and instills confidence, ensuring that everyone can access the benefits of advancements in science and technology.
